Which illnesses does EEOICPA cover?
Part B has a fixed list. Part E covers virtually any illness caused by toxic exposure — even if it is not on the list. This page explains both in detail, with the evidence required for each.
If your condition is not listed, do not assume you don’t qualify. Part E covers any illness caused by toxic exposure at a covered DOE facility. Contact us before deciding not to file.
Part B — fixed list
Radiogenic cancers, chronic beryllium disease, beryllium sensitivity, and silicosis. If listed and facility is covered — $150,000 plus lifetime medical benefits.
Part E — open category
Any illness caused by toxic exposure at a covered DOE contractor facility. No fixed list. Eligibility based on medical and occupational evidence. Up to $250,000 plus medical.

Medical evidence required
What your doctor needs to provide.
The type of medical evidence OWCP requires depends on your diagnosis. Missing or incomplete evidence is the most common cause of processing delays.
Cancer (Part B)
- Pathology report — cancer type and date of diagnosis
- Probability of causation statement (≥50%) — most commonly missing
- NIOSH will also conduct radiation dose reconstruction
- Treating physician report
Beryllium disease (Part B)
- BeLPT (beryllium lymphocyte proliferation test) result
- Pulmonary function tests
- Physician diagnosis of CBD or beryllium sensitivity
- Documentation of beryllium exposure at facility (OWCP verifies)
Toxic illness (Part E)
- Physician diagnosis with ICD code
- Statement linking illness to specific toxic substance at facility
- AMA Guides impairment rating (% whole-body impairment)
- Wage loss documentation for wage-loss component
